I applied a pure silver leaf on the iron surface using a traditional gilding  technique. At first, my intention was to shape the silver square very symmetrically and keep straight lines (as a square should be). However, after brushing off the silver-leaf debris and before using the scalpel to straighten the lines, I felt that it would do the composition a dis-service. Keeping the edges "messy" allows a certain warmth to come trough the very cold metals.
